Both the men, employed by a local Bahraini construction firm, were putting final touches to an apartment block when the scaffolding collapsed, according to the Gulf Daily News.

Kumarapillai Neelakantan, 50, was declared dead by doctors immediately after being admitted to the Salmaniya hospital in Manama.

The other worker sustained massive injuries in the accident.

Workers at the scene said they heard a noise and the next thing they knew the two workers were on the ground.

"They were visibly very seriously injured so we called an ambulance," said one of the workers.

"Neelakantan seemed to have just dislocated his shoulder, but died from severe internal injuries," said an accident and emergency department doctor.

"He died before we could do anything to help him," the doctor said.
