Indigo flight makes emergency landing at Jammu airport

A major tragedy was averted at Jammu airport when an Indigo flight carrying 130 passengers made an emergency landing when smoke was detected to be coming out of one of the engines of the plane.

A major tragedy was averted at Jammu airport when an Indigo flight carrying 130 passengers made an emergency landing when smoke was detected to be coming out of one of the engines of the plane.


Around 9 am on Wednesday, the Jammu bound Indigo flight 6E-554 was arriving from New Delhi, and when still in the air the pilot observed smoke coming out of the engine and decided to make an emergency landing.

Officials at the airport said that after the Air Traffic Control (ATC) got the information of Indigo flight trying to make emergency landing, decks were cleared and space was given for the flight to land safely.

They said that all 130 passengers were safe and were evacuated from the plane minutes after the emergency landing.

The plane couldn’t take off after the emergency landing till late afternoon.

"Around 9 am when Indigo flight was about to land at Jammu airport, pilots saw smoke coming out and made the landing,” said Ramesh Khajuria, DySP airport security.

"The fault was detected at the right time and repair work is going on,” he added.

"The flight is still grounded at Jammu airport and passengers are waiting eagerly to reach their destination," sources told Hindustan Times .

The flight was scheduled to go to Srinagar and return to New Delhi.
