Asserting that friendship between India and Pakistan is key to peace in the region, a senior leader of National Conference Wednesday accused "some world powers" with vested interests of creating hurdles in ties between the two countries.
"Some world powers having vested interests are creating hurdles in building of a friendly relations between India and Pakistan, thus adding to the miseries of the people of South Asia," general secretary of the ruling party Sheikh Nazir Ahmad said at a function organised to kick start party membership drive in this South Kashmir district.
He said Indo-Pak friendship guarantees everlasting peace in the region. "National Conference is playing a responsible role in this connection so that the political and economic aspirations of the people of the state are taken care of," Ahmad said.
Without going into the detail of the Shopian incident, Ahmad said "people of Shopian will get justice and they need not to leave the hope for justice".
