Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) secretary Lalchand Rajput confirmed that Tendulkar's unavailability was due to the injury. "Sachin told me that he has a hamstring problem, so he won't be able to play against Maharashtra," Rajput told the Hindustan Times.

Confirming Tendulkar's injury, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Niranjan Shah said: “Tendulkar suffered the injury during India's third Test against South Africa. He had to take injections during the Test.”

Tendulkar, who last played a match for Mumbai six years ago, could have played a crucial role in helping Mumbai qualify for the semifinals.

Zaheer unavailable too

Mumbai suffered another setback as Zaheer Khan pulled out of the match citing personal reasons. "Zaheer said he has informed the chairman of selection committee (Dilip Vengsarkar) about his unavailability," Rajput said.
