AN INMATE of Allahabad University's Hindu Hostel sustained injuries after he was bashed up by a group of youngsters within the hostel premises on Friday.

The incident is believed to have been in retaliation to the victim earlier beating up another hostel inmate following some dispute over washing of clothes this morning.
The victim, who is a research scholar in varsity's Mathematics department, has been admitted to the Tej Bahadur Sapru (Beli) Hospital for treatment.
Sources inform that the trouble started at around 12 noon when the victim, Pawan Rai, entered into an altercation with another inmate of the Hindu Hostel over washing of clothes. This reportedly led to exchange of blows between the two.
Upset over the fight, the other inmate went out and later returned to the hostel with some of his friends. Eyewitnesses told the cops that this group then beat up Pawan and managed to abscond before other hostel inmates could come to his aid.
On being contacted, AU Proctor Prof Jata Shankar confirmed the incident and said that he along with Dean Students Welfare Prof Jagdamba Singh visited the hostel at around 1.30 pm after coming to know about the fight. "We have demanded a written complaint from the victim who is undergoing treatment at Beli Hospital as well as hostel authorities. Action will be taken against the guilty," he said.
