A team of two entomologists, Pala Ram and Krishna Rolania, surveyed 36 cotton fields in 18 villages of the three districts to see the incidence of harmful insects and pests on the crop.

According to a survey report submitted to SS Siwach, director of research, the average population of leafhopper nymphs and adults was below the economic threshold in all the fields surveyed. Similarly, the mean population of whitefly adults per leaf was below the economic threshold except in Barwala, Monamadpur Rohi, Bhodia Khera and Panjwana villages.

The incidence of Solenopsis mealybug was observed in traces in three fields, whereas attack of another species of mealybug, Drosicha, was observed on few cotton plants growing near the roadside in Chindhar village.
