"It is basically an old problem for him and he has had to follow certain exercises to keep fit. But travelling is a major source of discomfort for him and it accentuates the back problem," PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan said on Tuesday.

"One option we are studying is sending Inzamam abroad to consult pecialists."

Inzamam missed the third and final Test against India after the injury flared up in the drawn second Test.

Pakistan's captain has 25 hundreds and has played 107 Tests.

"He is a key figure for us and has captained the side very well. We see him as imperative for the 2007 World Cup.

"I think he has to think about planning out his matches," Shaharyar said.

The PCB chairman said Inzamam had been keen to play in the final Test against India, but decided against taking a risk and breaking down during the match.

"As it is, he has been advised to rest before the one-day series," he added.

Pakistan play India in the first one-dayer in Peshawar on February 6.
