England-based lawyer Mark Gay has been smiling his way to the bank ever since the PCB hired him to defend Inzamam-ul Haq in the ball-tampering case and though he failed to save the Pakistan skipper from being banned, the British legal eagle took home a mind-boggling £250,000 for his services.

Gay has found favour with the Pakistan Cricket Board after being hired for the Inzamam case despite the fact that he could not get the captain acquitted of the charges of bringing the game into disrepute.

The 'Dawn' reported that several local lawyers offered to defend Inzamam free of cost but the PCB went ahead and appointed Gay despite his high fee.

In addition to this, the PCB also sought his assistance in the doping scandal and hired him to assist the tribunal which found Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif guilty of abusing banned anabolic steroid nandrolone.

Gay was reportedly appointed without consulting the committee chairman and after the judge refused assistance from the British lawyer, the PCB removed him from the panel but not without having to shell out 43,000 pounds for his one-night stay in the country.
