According to the authorities at the hospital cum medical college, the infant suffering from congenital cataract could not differentiate between intra-uterine and extra-uterine life and his world was dark.

The child was admitted in this condition at SAIMS where a team of doctors led by senior eye specialist surgeon Dr Nitin Neema took up the case and accepted it as a challenge for the medical fraternity. For the first time in the State Intra Occular Lens Implant (IOL) surgery with removal of cataract and implantation of lens through FACO emulsification method was carried out on a child as young as three-months-old.

In order to insure that the little one may retain his vision in the future without developing complications Dr Neema also simultaneously performed two more complicated surgeries of posterior capsulectomy and anterior vitriectomy.

Bhandari group of hospitals chairman Dr Vinod Bhandari reduced the medical charges to the lowest possible so that the financial constraint of the surgeries did not come in the way of the child’s journey towards light.
