INDIA MAY not be a central player in the crisis but it finds itself increasingly drawn into the vortex of the Iran nuclear issue.

With an extraordinary session of the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) board of governors being scheduled for the first week of February, sources said India would, if the present impasse continues, vote in favour of a motion to refer the Iran nuclear issue to the UN Security Council. Officially, the government is refusing to talk about it.

As the crisis over Iran's "intransigence" deepened, several "friendly western nations" (among them the US, Britain and Germany) have presented 'demarches' or formal proposals to India explaining what is happening in Iran's nuclear facilities.
