Iran has proposed setting up an "international" centre on Iranian soil to provide fuel for its controversial nuclear programme, the Iranian embassy in Moscow said on Tuesday.

Iran has, once again, rejected a Russian plan for the fuel to be processed in Russia, saying that it "cannot make itself dependent on international suppliers."

However, "Iran welcomes the creation of an international centre for supplying nuclear fuel with the participation of other countries in the framework of an international consortium on its own territory," the embassy said.
