After setting up centers of excellence (COE) for vegetables and fruits in Haryana, the Israel government has now proposed to set up a similar facility for milk at Hisar.
Naftali Bennet, the Israeli minister of economy, said that their government was committed to share the technological advancements with India for the upliftment of farmers.
Bennet was member of an Israeli delegation that inspected COE for vegetables at Ghraunda near here on Tuesday.
“We are determined to increase India's milk production by five folds. India has a special space for Israel and our government will make all efforts to help the Indians to increase productions of fruits, vegetables and milk,” he said.
Showing satisfaction with the Ghraunda center, Bennet said: “Horticulture products like cucumber's production go up by 10 times per square meter if grown under controlled environment.”
He said that Israel was a major support of organic farming and was ready to promote it in India as well.
“We feel that water wastage is one of the major challenges faced all around in the world. About 40% of global water goes wasted due to leakages and Israel has developed such a technology that gauges water at inlet and outlet points,” he said.
The state agriculture minister Paramvir Singh said that farmers of the entire country were benefitted with the COEs set up in Haryana.
Besides, training and sale of disease free horticulture saplings at subsidised rates, farmers were also trained at these COEs about benefits of use of polyhouses, the state minister said.
