UTTAR PRADESH Congress Committee (UPCC) president Salman Khurshid on Tuesday said the Samajwadi Party’s call for an agitation against the petro price hike on June 13 was an attempt to divert focus from issues concerning the common man in the State.
Khurshid was replying to questions from mediapersons at the UPCC headquarters. He said the price hike was the result of an increase in prices of petroleum products in the international market.
While taking any decision on the price hike issue, people would also see the development work being carried out and the increased job opportunities in rural areas during the UPA Government’s tenure, he said.
Khurshid said a Rs 10-hike in the price of petrol had been recommended to the UPA Government. It, however, effected a hike of only Rs 4 per litre, he said.
The Left parties supporting the UPA Government were aware of the facts, he said, adding the UPA Government had not touched prices of kerosene and LPG.
The Samajwadi Party should also express its concern against the Mulayam Government’s decision to sell prime NOIDA land at throwaway prices, he said.
