The cancellation of nominations of two major parties in the Delhi University Students Union elections, on account of breaking the model code of conduct, is a praiseworthy step taken by the Lyngdoh committee. The increasing use and show of money and power in the DUSU elections are an indication of India’s deteriorating political standards. Most of these young candidates are aspiring politicians and leaders of tomorrow. Any tough lessons learnt at this stage will not only help them but will also help the future political environment of this country.
