‘It’s time to legalise gay marriages too’

I realised I was attracted to women when I was 12 years old. In school, this didn’t mean much, but by the time I reached college the attraction was very strong.

My family has no idea that I’m a lesbian. I haven’t told them because I know they think this is unnatural and will be devastated.

I have been dating men since last year for the sake of my parents. I don’t like it but there was no choice.

But after today’s verdict, I will confront my parents. I will also be able to approach girls more freely and hope to find the woman of my dreams soon.

I never thought that the verdict would be out so soon, and I am so happy. And, for once, I am really proud of my government.

For the gay community, I think the euphoria is almost as much as when India received Independence in 1947.

I also think gay marriages should be legalised, as all are equal in the eyes of God and it is our fundamental right not to be discriminated against.
