'It's you who matters'

I have said this many times before…no matter who we are or what we do… there is an inherent need in all of us to be recognised and appreciated, writes Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra.

I have said this many times before…no matter who we are or what we do… there is an inherent need in all of us to be recognised and appreciated. For someone like me, from the entertainment business, this is also a critical factor of our success and the connect that we have been able to create with the audience at large.

For as far back as I can remember, my parents inculcated in me the value that there is no substitute for hard work and it’s something that I tried to bring to everything that I do. But… I realised very early on in my career, hard work does not necessarily guarantee recognition and appreciation. Which is why, I am so nervous before the release of my films and any other activity that I am a part of.

On the Friday that my film releases, I am always breathless with anticipation about the response to the film and my performance in it. And when the feedback starts to come in, it can be euphoric or heartbreaking. Why am I bringing this up? Well... because I have been blessed and am fortunate enough, especially over the past week, to have been flooded with such warm, loving and totally mind-blowing feedback from audiences across the globe. I’m humbled… overjoyed… enriched and much more with the outpouring of love and support from my tweeple on Twitter, friends on Facebook and you guys, who are kind enough to read my columns every week. There is nothing more gratifying than knowing that your work has been appreciated and that you have found a connect with a sizeable number of people from across geographies!

So today, I want to thank you… each and every one of you out there. Thank you for taking the effort to connect with me and for encouraging me to keep doing what I’m doing with your wonderful words of support and love. I may not be able to respond to everyone, but every single comment/email/letter/message is important to me.

My team and I are working on some ideas in which I can connect with everyone of you on a more regular, one-to-one basis. Until then, please don’t stop connecting with me. I look forward to your feedback… whether it is praise or critique. What matters to me…is that it’s real!!
