"Singh's statement is most unfortunate, dangerous and unwarranted. He has negated the contribution of his father, late Maharaja Hari Singh, to the state's accession," Jugal Kishore Sharma, BJP state unit president and MP, said while addressing a rally at Vijaypur.

Singh, in a statement issued last evening on the controversy over Article 370, had said, "J&K is certainly an integral part of the country but can also be treated separately like Hong Kong, which is part of China, but is given special dispensation."

Sharma said, "Singh, who is also the former sadar-e-riyasat, has shocked the people of the state with his statement."

A controversy has erupted after Jitendra Singh, minister of state in Prime Minister's Office, said BJP would start a debate on relevance of Article 370 and that it has already started process for its abrogation.

"He (Mukherjee) signed the Indian Constitution, keeping into consideration the temporary nature of Article 306-A (370)," said Sharma.

Sharma warned the Congress party and the NC not to mislead people through their alleged hate and break India campaign.
