J-K legislative council adjourned sine die

The Jammu and Kashmir legislative council was on Friday adjourned sine die after a 12-day autumn session that was dominated by the controversy surrounding the payoff remarks by former Army Chief VK Singh.

The Jammu and Kashmir legislative council was on Friday adjourned sine die after a 12-day autumn session that was dominated by the controversy surrounding the payoff remarks by former Army Chief VK Singh.


The session, which commenced here on September 30, saw a discussion on allegations levelled by the former Army chief that ministers in the state were paid money by the army to get certain jobs done.

A unanimous resolution was also passed by the Council, seeking a time-bound and transparent probe into the matter.

Human rights issues including the killings in Shopian, Gool, Kishtwar riots and attack on police and army establishments in Jammu region were also discussed in the house.

A total of 170 starred questions were asked, out of which 147 were taken for discussion.

Besides 11 resolutions, out of which nine were taken up for the discussion, the House also received 40 Calling Attention notices and 25 were listed during the session.

Five private members bills were received and three were taken up for discussion, while two government bills were also taken up for discussion.
