The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday released a long list of serving and retired government officials, including IAS, IPS and state administrative service officers, allegedly involved in various corruption cases.
The list has more than 600 names and includes a former minister, a former chief secretary, a former vice-chancellor of the agriculture university and principal secretaries.
It was issued in a written reply by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to a question raised in the assembly by CPI(M) legislator M.Y Tarigami who wanted details of officers and ministers involved in corruption cases, probes conducted and action taken against them.
Abdullah said that 72 cases, involving 122 serving and retired officials, were under investigation. They include former secretary Mehboob Iqbal, former vice-chancellor of Jammu Agriculture University Nagendra Sharma, former food and supplies director Abdul Majeed Mir, former agriculture director Ghulam Hyder Bhat and managing director (handicrafts) Showkat Ali.
In three cases, the challan is pending or a stay has been declared by high court. These cases are against former chief secretary Ashok Jaitley, former principal secretary Ajit Kumar and former district social welfare officer (Srinagar) Mohammad Yousuf Bhat.
In 12 cases of accumulation of assets, illegal appointments and misappropriation of government money, the proposal for sanction to prosecute is being considered.

{{/usCountry}}The cases are against 51 people, including former National Conference minister Jagjeevan Lal, former director (local bodies), Jammu Mohinder Singh, former director (health), Kashmir, Muzaffar Ahmad.
In the Jagjeevan Lal case, the chief minister said the matter has been referred to the Speaker for granting sanction for prosecution.
