"Let us leave aside the resignation. He (Madni) should join back and perform his routine duty," Lone told the House, when his attention was drawn to the issue of the resignation of deputy speaker by CPI(M) MLA M Y Tarigami.

Tarigami had earlier appealed to Madni, who belongs to the opposition PDP, to take back his resignation, but Madni did not attend the proceedings today.

"He (Madni) is my friend and has been my junior in the University. There are at times verbal duels, but we have no personal scores to settle," the Speaker said. "So Madni should join back and leave the issue of his resignation," Lone said.

Madni had resigned on March 3 from the post of deputy speaker of the Assembly over comments by Lone against him in the local media.

The state government's representatives -- minister for law and parliamentary affairs Ali Mohd Sagar and advisors to chief minister, Mubarak Gul and D S Rana -- tried to pacify Madni and urged him to withdraw resignation on Thursday.
