On Thursday, leaders of Andhra Pradesh's ruling Congress and opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) demanded action against Reddy for flouting the rules.

Reddy was accompanied by 60 followers, who allegedly raised 'Jai Jagan' slogans on the temple premises.

"He is displaying arrogance even before God," said Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao, setting a week's deadline for the government to take action against the Kadapa MP.

"If the government fails to take action against him, I will protest on the temple premises."

TDP leader S Chandramohan Reddy alleged he had no respect for other religions.

Officials of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which manages the affairs of the temple, said Reddy argued there was no need for him to sign the register as he had signed it last in 2009.

TTD official LV Subramanyam said they were checking if it was necessary for a non-Hindu to sign it on every visit to the temple.
