The opposition TDP and two Left parties repeatedly stalled the assembly proceedings alleging irregularities in the leasing of iron ore and barytes mines in Khamman district to Rakshana Steels Limited, which belongs to Anil Kumar, and demanded a probe into it.

They charged that besides the loss to the exchequer, it also violated the rules for mining in agency areas. They demanded the lease be cancelled and the mines be handed over to the Central PSU Vizag Steel plant.

Replying to a question posed by the CPI members during the Question Hour, Minister for Mines Balineni Srinivas Reddy said the state government had given the mining lease to the state PSU Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) in 2009.

After calling for bid, the APMDC had chosen Rakshana Steels Limited for harvesting the ore for the proposed steel plant. Reddy denied allegations of irregularities in the granting of mine lease.
