The disciplinary panel of the APCC served the notice on Ambati Rambabu, asking him to appear before it on July 12.

The committee's decision came following a complaint by APCC office-bearers to party General Secretary Veerappa Moily, in-charge of Congress affairs in Andhra Pradesh that Rambabu had lashed out at the chief minister for allegedly trying to block 'Odarpu Yatra' by Jagan, son of former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

They claimed Rambabu had questioned whether Rosaiah had the high command's permission for celebrating his 78th birthday last week.

Responding to the notice served on him, Rambabu felt his remarks "did not amount to indiscipline". Terming the matter as an internal issue of the party, he said he would appear before the committee and reply to the charges.

Chandrasekhara Reddy said they would not keep quiet if action is taken against Rambabu. Alleging that some senior party leaders are targeting Jagan, he asked them to "retire from politics and bless" the Kadapa MP.
