DIVISIONAL COMMISSIONER Anita Bhatnagar Jain today took to task KMC officials for the increasing encroachment in prime market areas of the city. Jain was inspecting the spots identified for parking, to streamline the haywire traffic system in the city. The commissioner directed officials to prepare a daily report of the encroachment and the action taken by the enforcement squad of the KMC.
The commissioner who inspected Murrey Company, Heer Palace, Phool Bagh, Swaroop Nagar and Parade areas, also directed officials to expedite the process of marking the parking spots in the city. The KMC had identified 154 parking spots in the area.
However, marking could be done for only about 50 parking spots.
According to KMC sources, as per the new policy, proper parking spots would be marked. The mark would be sleeker as per the width of the road and the vehicles would be parked only within the marked area. After the completion of the tender process for parking spots, which is expected to be completed by April 15, contractors would be summoned and informed about the new rules. Initially the marking of the parking spots would be done by the KMC.
Later, the maintenance of the marks would be the sole responsibility of the contractor. The divisional commissioner, while inspecting the spots also suggested few changes and directed officials to expedite the process. While inspecting parking spots, Jain also spotted encroachment especially in the Naveen Market area. She even warned a refrigerator shop owner to keep goods within the shop limit or he would have to face action.
