The dozer, through which water is chlorinated before supply, was lying out of order for the last six months due to which the residents of slum colonies near Nehru Park, Jayantipur, Dharamvir Road and Ramman Ka Purwa were receiving contaminated drinking water.

District health department and Jal Sansthan's team led by Dr VK Mishra and Dr Feroze Alam also conducted OT test in 20 houses, after the dozer was replaced.
The team claimed that the water was found fit for drinking. The main water tank in Sulem Sarai was also cleaned by the Jal Sansthan employees. But the Nagar Nigam officials were yet to wake up from the deep slumber. Despite reporting of 12 jaundice and Hepatitis-B cases in a single day the sampling of the open food sold in the market was not done by the food inspectors. No efforts were made to improve the civic condition of the area and clean the clogged drains. The sale of food, snacks and cut fruits was going on unchecked in the area.

Several more patients were identified in the area who suffered from jaundice in the past month," he said.

The patients of jaundice and Hepatitis-B include Rajiv (7), Sulekha (5), Nadeem (13), Shabnam (35), Mohit (15) and Anjani (12).
