Members of the Jammu Bar Association (JBA) continued their strike demanding the transfer of the sex racket case from Srinagar for the fourth day on Saturday, affecting work in courts in the region.
Hundreds of JBA members staged a demonstration at Janipur Road near the high court complex and burnt effigies of Kashmir Bar Association president Abdul Qayoom. They also blocked the road for over an hour.
The association has been demanding the transfer of the high-profile case from Srinagar so that the accused can get a "fair trial in a secure environment". It has also opposed the Kashmir Bar Association's ban on lawyers representing any of the accused in the racket.
The lawyers association of Samba, Kathua, Baderwah and Udhampur have extended support to the JBA's demand for shifting of trial of the sex racket case from Srinagar.
The protests were led by JBA president DV Wazir and secretary Abhinav Sharma. The protestors also criticised Qayoom's statement that the JBA's demand was "unjustified and regional".
The lawyers insisted their strike would continue till the case was transferred to Jammu or any other place outside Kashmir.
