EVEN AS the CBI is poised to submit a preliminary report to the Allahabad High Court in connection with the Jankipuram land scam on Thursday, a half-an-hour video CD chronicling the misdeeds of the alleged kingpin behind it has added a new twist to the rip-off.
The CD, accusing Daya Shankar Singh aka Raju Singh of pulling off the property fraud in connivance with the LDA staff, was sent to principal secretary, LDA vice chairman and district magistrate by Vinod Shankar Tripathi on February 6 this year. Shot from inside a moving car, the video CD gives a blow by blow account of Singh’s rags to riches story as well as his proximity to a young MP of the ruling party.
Here it is pertinent to mention that while deposing before the CBI, some of the plot owners had stated that they had purchased the plot through Raju Singh, who then operated his real estate ‘business’ from a firm New Lucknow Property and Company with its office at Baille Guard crossing in Sector-P, Aliganj. Singh now moves around in his flashy Toyota Innova with a couple of security guards and owns the Shubham filling station on Kursi Road. He also has a stake in Shubham Falaknuma Restaurant, Shubham Star Dry Cleaners and Shubham Awas Sahkari Grih Nirman Samiti in Aliganj.
When contacted by Hindustan Times, Daya Shankar said that the CD was an attempt by his political adversaries to tarnish his image. He said that he was an office-bearer of the intellectual cell of the Samajwadi Party. “The CD is an attempt by some LDA officers involved in the scam to shift the focus of investigation away from themselves,” he said, adding that he still owed Rs 35 lakh that he had taken as loan for his petrol pump.
