JAUNDICE AND hepatitis-B has assumed epidemic-like dimension in the slum colonies near Nehru Park, Jayantipur, Dharamvir Road and Ramman-ka-Purwa under Sulem Sarain ward.

On Friday as many as 12 patients were identified as suffering from jaundice and hepatitis-B in these areas by the district health department’s epidemic team, led by Dr VK Mishra and Dr Feroze Alam.
Several more jaundice patients were found taking treatment at different private nursing homes. Many children were also found suffering from hepatitis-B.
It was found that residents in Sulem Sarain were receiving contaminated water from the tube well for the last three months.
The Jal Sansthan JE also admitted that the tube well was not functioning properly.
The local residents were quite agitated over the poor sanitary condition in the area and complained of receiving contaminated and muddy water.
The team examined the patients and also distributed chlorine tablets and ORS packets to the residents.
The health department’s team got active after MP Shailendra Kumar asked the chief medical officer, Allahabad, to take quick action in this regard.
Dr VK Mishra said that soon after receiving the MP’s report, they visited the area and examined patients suffering from jaundice and hepatitis-B.
Most of the people had fallen sick due to poor sanitary condition. The drinking water was found stored in unhygenic places. People were asked to drink boiled water. Necessary instructions were also issued to the NN and Jal Sansthan.
