There was a heavy cross-border firing from Pakistan on Sabzain Forward Defence Location (FDL) along LoC in Poonch district around 1130 hours on Monday, the Army officer told PTI.

In the cross-border firing, one BSF jawan sepoy Shurvir Singh was killed, he said, adding that troops on "our side fired back resulting in exchange of fire for half-an-hour".

There were also reports of firing of two rockets on the forward post in the same area at 1135 and 1145 hours respectively.

The troops have been put on further alert in view of reports of increase in infiltration bids by militants from across the border into the Indian side.

BSF troops foiled an infiltration bid in Alfa Machil border outpost in Akhnoor sector this morning.
