Jawan killed in cross-border firing in Poonch

An army jawan who was injured in cross border firing succumbed to injury in the wee hours on Wednesday at army hospital in Rajouri. The soldier has been identified as Sepoy Rakesh Kumar resident of Cirdhana of Bilaspur district in Himachal Pradesh.

The soldier has been identified as Sepoy Rakesh Kumar resident of Cirdhana of Bilaspur district in Himachal Pradesh.

According to sources, Kumar of 37 Rashtriya Rifle was on duty at Neelam post in Balnoi sector in Mendhar sector when a bullet fired from across the border at about 5.30 pm hit him in the abdominal.

He was immediately rescued to the nearby army medical centre and later shifted to army hospital at Rajouri where he breathed his last at about 3 am today.

Some militants who were trying to sneak into this side of border fired on the soldier as per sources.
