In a release in Chennai, she noted that an order to this effect was passed during her previous regime in 2001 and had been quite popular among Muslims.

"I have received representations from Muslims to supply rice just like in the past. So, I have ordered the supply of rice to mosques to prepare meals without any hassle," she said.

The scheme would benefit over 3,000 mosques in the state.

Last year, the government had provided 4,000 tonnes of rice to the mosques.
