Jayalalithaa spoke to Modi over the phone and "Thanked him for his support in ensuring the unanimous election" of Thambidurai as deputy speaker, a state government release here said.

She has also sent a letter to the Prime Minister in this regard, it added.

67-year-old Thambidurai, leader of AIADMK parliamentary party, was elected to the post for the second time, after a motion, moved by home minister Rajnath Singh and seconded by external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj supporting him, was carried by voice vote amid thumping of desks from all sides.
