Before he achieved the mark, Sachin Tendulkar (13,642 runs), Pakistani captain Inzamam-ul-Haq (10,933) and Sourav Ganguly (10,046), were the other three batsmen who had scored more than 10,000 runs. Now, the 36-year-old Sri Lankan Jayasuriya (10,057) has joined the club of 10,000.

The former Sri Lankan captain needed 10 runs before the final to achieve the 10,000-mark which he promptly reached with a pulled shot to the boundary off left-armer Irfan Pathan in his 337th one-day international.

When the left-hander was finally out for 67 runs off 77 balls, his career average stood at 36.32. Jayasuriya over the years has smashed 18 centuries and 58 half-centuries and has held 105 catches.

Six days ago, Ganguly had scored his 10,000th run in India's third match of the tournament at Dambulla.
