JD(U) threatens defamation against Rabri

Leader of the Opposition Rabri Devi’s allegedly abusive remarks against CM Nitish Kumar and state JD(U) president Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lalan has sparked off a controversy with the ruling party threatening today to file a defamation suit against her and complaining to the EC.

“It is quite surprising that a leader like Rabri Devi who ruled Bihar more than seven and half years is using such abusive words against her political opponents when a debate is on in the people’s court for support,” JD(U) National Spokesman Shivanand Tiwari said while threatening to approach the Election Commission for violating the code of conduct.

JD(U) has taken the remarks “very very seriously” and would be filing a defamation case against her after consulting legal experts, he said.

A television footage today showed showed Rabri Devi, a former chief minister as saying “Lalan Singh is brother-in-law of Nitish ... and Nitish is the brother-in-law of Lalan. That is why both of them are seen holding each other’s hands.”
