Jet Airways announced on Monday it would be buying 10 more Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
"They will start arriving in June 2011. The orders have been placed to expand our international operations," Saroj Datta, executive director of Jet Airways told the Hindustan Times.
Boeing will deliver the aircraft between July 2011 and December 2012.
Although, the company did not disclose the financial details of the agreement, aviation analysts valued the deal between $1.5 to $2 billion.
Under the agreement, Jet has the option to substitute other models of Boeing aircraft as well.
Jet Airways’ current fleet consists of 45 Boeing 737s, four Airbuses - three 340-300Es and one A 330-200 - and eight modern ATR72-500 aircraft.
Jet Airways intends to expands its international operations considerably, and will soon be flying to three destinations in the North American continent - New York, San Fransico and Toronto - and reaching out to the African continent as well. It will fly to New York from Mumbai via Brussels as well as to San Fransisco, stopping at - most probably - Shanghai.
The airline has already placed earlier orders for 22 wide-bodied long-haul aircraft, which will be added to its fleet by October. It presently flies to five international destinations - London, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo and Kathmandu - apart from 44 domestic destinations. It will start flying to Bangkok from January end.
