Scores of workers like him have been granted leave by factory owners in Gujarat and Maharashtra, a phenomenon attributed to 'Modi wave'.

Vishwakarma said his two sons and several colleagues, who work in the same factory, came to their native Jhariyagadi village, which falls in Giridih Lok Sabha constituency, so that he could vote on April 17.

He said several workers from Koderma constituency, who also work in Gujarat, were returning to their workplaces after voting on April 10 in the third phase of the elections.

Vishwakarma is one of the 10,000 workers who have migrated to other states, particularly Gujarat and Maharashtra, to eke out their livelihood.

The workers are normally granted paid holidays only for religious festivals in their native places.
