Traffic authorities suspended vehicular movement on the highway, which is the only surface link between Kashmir and the rest of the country.
Traffic will be restored only after removal of the stones, officials said.
Light vehicles, which had moved from Jammu and Srinagar for their respective destinations, remained stranded on various parts of the arterial road, they said.
