It may be recalled that Governor TV Rajeswar had sent a detailed report to the Centre with details of poll-related violence and partisan role of officials besides blatant misuse of the Government machinery by the ruling Samajwadi Party in the civic poll.

Kalyan Singh reiterated that free and fair elections were not possible in Mulyam’s regime and it had been established by large-scale violence and rigging in recently concluded civic polls and imposition of the President’s rule was the only option.

Talking to a select group of journalists here on Wednesday, a beaming Kalyan Singh regretted that open goondism, booth capturing, partisan attitude of bureaucrats and blatant misuse of the Government machinery during the civic poll was the worst chapter of Mulayam Government.

He claimed that the BJP could have performed much better but for some bureaucrats and the police officers, who either helped the Samajwadi Party leaders and workers or were moot spectators of booth capturing and rigging. He, however, appreciated courage of the common men, who came out on the road in protest against the SP goons, and checked them to a certain extent.

The results had proved them wrong, who were saying that the BJP was nowhere in the race, while the fact was that it was only BJP, which was in direct fight on every seat and with the SP everywhere.

Disclosing his strategy for the coming Vidhan Sabha elections, Kalyan Singh said that the BJP would cautioned people against four major issues — terrorism, internal security, Islamisation and criminalisation of politics — and would apprise people of threat to national unity and integrity by Muslim appeasement policies of almost all the political outfits, including the SP and the Congress.

Strongly condemning those who were asking clemency for Afzal, who has been awarded death sentence by the Apex Court, Kalyan Singh dubbed it part of the agenda of minority appeasement for politics of votes. The BJP was the only party, which had been demanding hanging of Afzal from the very beginning, he added.
