"The Warrior", featuring Irrfan Khan in the lead role as a ruthless warrior overcome by remorse, is being released in select US cities Friday by Miramax Films. It is being presented by celebrated British filmmaker Anthony Minghella.
The film will first open in New York and Los Angeles July 15 to be followed by Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Boston, Washington DC, Detroit, and Seattle July 29.
"Writing a film is a long process, making it is a long process, why should distributing it be any easier?" British-born Indian filmmaker Kapadia told IANS with the tongue firmly in his cheek.
"The Warrior" won a clutch of international prizes, including Best British Film and Best New Director at the coveted British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards.
Contrary to early trade reports that Miramax had insisted upon certain editing leading to the delay of the release, Kapadia said the version that was hitting market was "100 percent director's cut".
He acknowledged that studios and filmmakers often run into disagreements over editing questions but asserted he did not face such problems.
