Indian film director Shekhar Kapur is shooting a film on Buddha and has been advised by the Dalai Lama on the film.
The successful director of films like Elizabeth and Bandit Queen, who spends most of his time in London, travelled to Dharamsala to meet the Dalai Lama. The film is scheduled to be released next year, marking the Buddha's 2,550th birthday.
The Dalai Lama's press secretary said: "His holiness was pleased to hear that there is a project to make a film on the life and teachings of Buddha."
Kapur, whose film is about Buddha's personal journey to enlightenment, also met the Tibetan prime minister and Buddhist scholar Samdhong Rinpoche to discuss his new project.
After rising to prominence with Bandit Queen in 1994, Kapur gained international fame with his highly appreciated Elizabeth, and has been shooting for his next venture Pani, in India.
