About 4,000 doctors who had resigned en masse last month protesting against the state government's "apathy", on Wednesday decided to withdraw their resignations after the government "agreed" to their demands.
"Since Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has agreed to almost all our demands, we have decided to withdraw our resignations," Dr H N Ravindra, President, Karnataka Government Medical Officers' Association, told PTI.
Though the doctors had resigned en masse, they continued to work after government appealed to them to resume duty saying their demands were being considered.
He claimed that during an hour-long meeting on Wednesday, which was attended by Medical Education Minister Ramachandre Gowda and Home Minister V S Acharya, the government agreed to increase the rural allowance by Rs 1,000 taking it to Rs 7,000, which was one of their main demand.
Lauding the government's move to announce an emergency allowance of Rs 3,000, Ravindra said the government had decided to give post-graduate doctors additional Rs 8,000 every month.
The agitating doctors who had submitted their resignations on September 29, had extended the deadline to government to meet their demands, from October 14 to November 12 in view of flood havoc in the state.
