A 35-year-old man of Bhusali village was allegedly poisoned to death by a fellow villager over a property dispute here on Sunday.
Members of the victim's family blocked traffic outside the Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMCH) on Sunday, alleging that the victim, Pawan Singh, was served poison in liquor by one Sukhbir Singh.
Chander Lal, brother of the victim, said that Sukhbir's brother Sumer Chand had forced Pawan in 2012 to sign papers of a land deal at Bhusali village under the influence of liquor.
He alleged that Sumer did not pay anything and was later imprisoned in the Karnal district jail on a charge of killing his daughter-in-law.
“As the family was negotiating with Sumer's family, his brother Sukhbir assured to sort out the dispute. On Saturday, Sukhbir invited Pawan to resolve the matter and then mixed some poisonous substance in the liquor he served to Pawan. After battling for life at a private hospital in Karnal, Pawan died on Sunday,” Lal said.
Agitated over the death, members of Pawan's family and their relatives gathered at the KCGMCH and staged a protest.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Joginder Rathee assured a fair probe into the incident.
Meanwhile, the police said that a case had been registered and the post-mortem report was awaited.
