On the last day of campaigning for phase III in Karnataka, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, 66, paused for a minute when he spotted footwear flying towards his dais at Chennarayapatna, in Hassan district, 140 km from Bangalore. It fell short of the stage.

“Kick him and throw him into jail for six months,” he told policemen as they hauled Chandrashekar, 33, out.

A minute later, the chief minister resumed his speech, blaming former PM H.D. Deve Gowda and his sons H.D. Revanna and H.D. Kumaraswamy for instigating their “agents” to exhibit disrespect to him. He spewed venom because the incident occurred in their home district of Hassan.

According to K.V. Sharat Chandra, SP (Hassan), Chandrashekar was drunk and hurled his footwear without any provocation. “It did not hit anybody because it fell into the D zone in front of the stage.”
Police sources, however, said Chandrashekar admitted to hurling his footwear because he was angry with Yeddyurappa for his remarks against Gowda and his family.
