Karnataka to get a new tiger reserve

Environment minister Jairam Ramesh has asked Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa to submit a proposal to the Central government to declare Kudremukh National Park in Western Ghats as India's 40th tiger reserve.

Environment minister Jairam Ramesh has asked Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa to submit a proposal to the Central government to declare Kudremukh National Park in Western Ghats as India's 40th tiger reserve.

Already, 450 families have asked the state government for relocation and Ramesh said, if it is declared a tiger reserve, the Centre would provide financial assistance for relocation.

Before declaring it as a reserve, Ramesh wants the state to remove lying infrastructure of Kudremukh Iron Ore factory, which was closed as per Supreme Court directions in 2002.
