Writing in DMK's mouthpiece 'Murasoli', he said he had sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention after the Union Environment Ministry allowed Kerala to undertake a survey for building a new dam across Mullaperiyar in place of an existing century-old structure, besides moving the Supreme Court.

Responding to Jayalalithaa's criticism that TN was not represented at the September 16 meeting of the standing committee of National Wildlife Board, which cleared Kerala's proposal for the survey, he said Tamil Nadu was not represented though "the Chief Conservator of Forests of a state is generally invited."

He said he had earlier written to Union Environment and Forest Minister Jairam Ramesh, saying Kerala should not be allowed to undertake the survey without seeking Tamil Nadu's opinion. But the permission was given following which he wrote a detailed letter to the Prime Minister on October 8," he said.

A day earlier, the state had moved Supreme Court seeking a stay on the survey and it had been posted for October 20, he added.
