Reacting to reports in a section of the media in which Nikam had allegedly said that a Union Minister was pressurising him to complete the trial speedily so that the ruling party can get some mileage, Patil said the special public prosecutor had conveyed to the government that he had not made any such statement. "Nikam has personally denied this," he said.
The issue was raised in the state assembly on Monday by Opposition leader Eknath Khadse, Subhash Desai (Shiv Sena) and Bala Nandgaonkar (MNS) who wanted to know the identity of the minister pressurising Nikam. Speaker Dilip Walse Patil had directed the government to make a statement in this regard.
