The Jammu and Kashmir government, on Saturday, appointed state human rights commission chief Justice (retd) Syed Bashir-ud-Din to conduct an enquiry into Friday's firing incident in Sopore in which two youth were killed.
According to an official statement here, the commission will enquire into: "The causes of death of Shakeel Ahmad Ganai, son of Abdul Aziz Ganai, resident of Lalad (Sopore) and Firdous Ahmad Khan, son of Nazir Ahmad Khan, resident of Ningli (Sopore) in firing at Krankshivan, Sopore, district Baramulla; To determine the persons responsible for the said deaths and to fix responsibility for use of excessive force, if any."
The commission has been asked to submit its report within one month.
Ganai and Khan had been killed in the firing by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Sopore town, 54 km from here, when an agitated mob attacked a CRPF vehicle and torched it.
Five other people injured in the firing are being treated in hospitals in Srinagar city as an indefinite curfew remained in force in Sopore town.
The curfew was imposed on Friday in the wake of the widespread violence following the deaths of the two youth.
