Television show Kaun Banega Crorepati has run into a legal tangle years after its conclusion.

The Jodhpur High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Centre, Star TV network, BSNL and Synergy Communications following a writ petition filed by Udaipur resident Bharat Lodha challenging the methodology for selection of contestants of the show. A bench asked the respondents to furnish their reply to the objections raised by the petitioner.
Lodha alleged the selection process was faulty and lacked transparency. He said that “out of 25 lakh SMSes received through MTNL, Airtel and BSNL, the organisers selected 500 contestants and zeroed in on 10 who were invited to participate in the show”. He added that 10 employees of BSNL had participated in the show in violation of the rules. And, he added, members of eight families had appeared on the show for a second or third time, which was illegal.
