A complaint was lodged with the police by family members of the victim, hailing from Kheri Saadh on the NH-10 in Rohtak, that four youths from the neighbouring Baliyana village allegedly misbehaved and molested the girl.

A joint panchayat of two villages - Kheri Saadh and Baliyana - met in Rohtak on Friday evening and decided that it will decide the case and directed the victim's family to withdraw the police complaint, sources said.

The panchayat presided by 'sarpanch' of Baliyana village Yoganand after hearing both the sides found the youths "guilty" of molesting the girl.

It imposed a fine of Rs 100 each on the youths and declared that the village elders will hit them twice with a shoe.

The Khap panchayats are notorious for their diktats against couples who marry in the same gotra or against other societal norms.
