Killing spree: Five murders in 18 days

The 26-year-old ‘psycho-killer’ of Ghaziabad — who murdered his wife, killed a father-son duo and attacked his mother and her friend in separate incidents since June 23 — also killed two more people, police said on Friday.

The 26-year-old ‘psycho-killer’ of Ghaziabad — who murdered his wife, killed a father-son duo and attacked his mother and her friend in separate incidents since June 23 — also killed two more people, police said on Friday.

The man, Prashant Sharma, was nabbed from Loni on Thursday after weeks of frantic search. On Friday, the police claimed he had shot two more people at Indirapuram and Loni.He now faces charges in five murder and two attempt-to-murder cases in the past 18 days.

Sharma’s killing-spree started on June 23 when he shot dead his wife Sunaina Sharma at Karhera in Sahibabad. Two days later, he shot dead a father-son duo at Chirdoi area of Loni because of business rivalry.

His interrogation revealed that Sharma had also shot dead Dilip Mahto, an official of a Delhi-based finance company, at Nyay Khand area of Indirapuram on June 24.

The police said Mahto’s murder was a case of mistaken identity.

On July 10, he allegedly shot dead Loni-based businessman Rakesh Jain when the victim refused to part with a “ransom amount”.

“These two additional murders came to light after he was questioned. In all, this man is now accused of five murders and all the victims were shot dead with illegally acquired weapons. He has been arrested,” senior superintendent of police (SSP) Prashant Kumar told Hindustan Times.
